Your Job is to Teach

As you put together your plan for the next few months, add in some directed listening plans with all of your other great ideas! If you search this group and the other group, I have several directed listening posts available that explain what it is and how to do it. Then add in these multisensory ideas that cater to the children’s different intelligences, and you will see miracles happen!

But always remember that your job is to teach, not entertain. However, along with that thought, a child’s job is to play. Children learn better with play. Children learn better when you involve more of their senses.

Where is the line? I personally feel that if the methods help teach the song, utilize the midline crossing, help with repetition, or encourage involvement from everyone, it’s probably a good thing. However, if the activity only entertains, takes up valuable singing time with talking, choosing songs or children, or has nothing in common with the song, perhaps another method would be better.

Activities can be fun! Choose activities that teach, not entertain. Choose activities that involve every child, not just one or two. Keep everyone engaged, and you will see miracles happen!
